Starting the Quest
Talk to Gideon Bede (Varrock Chapel, south of Varrock Palace). He tells you that Delrith the demon has returned, and only the legendary sword Silverlight can destroy him.
Gideon sends you to Sir Prysin, who holds the sword locked away in the palace.
Head north to the Varrock Palace and speak to Sir Prysin, located upstairs in one of the side rooms. He explains that Silverlight is kept under lock and key, secured by three keys. To retrieve the sword, you must gather these keys.
Collecting the Three Keys
This is the main portion of the quest. Each key is in the possession of a different NPC, and you’ll need to complete small tasks to retrieve them.
Key 1: Captain Rovin’s Key
Head upstairs in Varrock Palace to find Captain Rovin in the northwestern tower.
Convince him that you need the key to defeat Delrith. He will reluctantly hand it over after some dialogue.
Key 2: Wizard Traiborn’s Key
Head to the Wizard’s Tower, south of Draynor Village.
Speak to Wizard Traiborn on the second floor. He’ll agree to give you the key, but only if you bring him 25 bones.
Bones can be collected by killing low-level creatures like chickens, cows, or goblins.
Once you bring the bones, Traiborn uses them in a ritual and gives you the second key.
Key 3: Sir Prysin’s Key (retrieval)
Sir Prysin accidentally dropped his key down the palace drain.
First, get a bucket of water. You can fill a bucket at a water source in Varrock.
Pour the water down the drain outside the palace kitchen.
The key is washed into the Varrock sewers.
Head into the sewers through the manhole in the center of Varrock and retrieve the key from the floor near the drain outlet.
Obtaining Silverlight
Once you’ve gathered all three keys, return to Sir Prysin in Varrock Palace. He unlocks the chest and gives you the legendary sword Silverlight.
At this point, make sure you have Silverlight equipped before confronting Delrith, because he can only be defeated with this weapon.
Preparing for the Fight
The final battle is not difficult, but preparation ensures success:
Gear: Equip Silverlight in your weapon slot. Basic armor is recommended for extra defense, though the fight is very manageable even for new players.
Food: Bring a few pieces of food (such as cooked meat or bread) just in case.
Location: The demon-summoning ritual takes place just south of Varrock, near the stone circle where Dark Wizards gather.
The Ritual and Delrith Fight
When you arrive at the stone circle, you’ll find Gideon Bede and several dark wizards attempting to summon Delrith. Once the ritual completes, Delrith appears.
Combat Tips:
Attack Delrith with Silverlight. Normal weapons will not damage him.
His health is fairly low, making this an easy fight even for new players.
If your combat stats are extremely low (level 5 or under), you may want to train slightly before attempting the battle.
Sealing the Demon:
After reducing Delrith’s health, you must complete the ritual to banish him. Gideon Bede provides you with an incantation earlier in the quest. This chant is randomly chosen for each player from several variations, so make sure you note it down when you receive it.
After defeating Delrith, type or select the correct incantation when prompted.
The demon will be banished back to the void, ending the threat to Varrock.
Quest Rewards
Upon completion, you’ll receive:
3 Quest Points – valuable for unlocking further quests.
Silverlight Sword – a strong weapon against demons, useful in future adventures like Demon Slayer II or general demon hunting.
Tips and Tricks
Bone Collection: To speed up the 25-bone requirement, head to the chicken coop near Varrock or cow field near Lumbridge. Both drop bones and are low-risk.
Sewer Navigation: Watch out for aggressive low-level creatures in the Varrock sewers, though most are not dangerous.
Silverlight Upgrade: Later in the game, Silverlight can be upgraded to Darklight and beyond, making this quest the start of a weapon chain with long-term relevance.
Why You Should Do This Quest
Though simple, Demon Slayer introduces players to RuneScape’s quest structure, with:
Exploration: Traveling between Varrock, the palace, and the Wizard’s Tower.
Problem-Solving: Finding keys through different methods (dialogue, item use, monster drops).
Combat & Lore: Facing a demon tied to RuneScape’s history.
It’s a short but classic adventure that sets you on the path toward more complex quests while rewarding you with an iconic sword.
Final Thoughts
The Demon Slayer quest is a rite of passage for RuneScape adventurers. By retrieving Silverlight, gathering the keys, and buy RuneScape gold banishing Delrith, you learn the foundations of questing and combat in Gielinor. Whether you’re a new free-to-play player or revisiting the game for nostalgia, this quest remains a cornerstone of RuneScape’s storytelling tradition.
